My name is Miriam. I’m an observant Jew in my mid twenties.
On a typical day I wake up at six thirty and get on a bus at seven thirty. By 9 am I am sitting at my desk, selling expensive, high end electronics and other things I can’t afford to people who probably don’t appreciate them enough. I leave work at 6 pm, and settle in for a long commute home.
When I started this job, I never dreamed I’d make time for the kitchen, no less for a cooking and baking blog. Don’t get the wrong idea! I love my job, and I enjoy what I do, but cooking, baking, developing my recipes and photographing them has become my outlet.
Sleep? I say it’s overrated.
I’m on a perpetual diet, so you might come across some delicious, yet dietetic recipes here. In fact, the very recipes I will share with you have helped me drop a bunch of sizes, and I hope they get me across the finish line.
Er, I’m not looking for diet recipes, you may be thinking. Not to worry. I’ve learned that refraining from eating delicious and totally sinful foods doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy baking them. I certainly do, and I share them with my friends, family and coworkers. And the recipes? I share ‘em with you!
I also sell amazing homemade cookies, so if you live in the NY area and want to buy some, email me.
Any questions? Email me at overtimecook at gmail.

Can’t wait to see your recipes, Miriam. I was recently diagnosed with Diabetes myself, so I really appreciate diabetic-friendly recipes!
Hi Stephanie,
Thanks for stopping by! The basis of my diet is eating foods that are low on the glycemic index, which are great for diabetics. (Of course, I bake loads of sugary foods too but…)
I’m loving your site, so glad you found me. Tried to find you on FB but couldn’t, I want to keep up with with what you’ve got new and my e-mail gets so cluttered. FB seems to be the “thing” for now. And I will be trying your potato knishes, I’m drooling just thinking about it!
Hi Miriam,
Your recipes are written so clearly and the pictures are presented so artisticly. A pleasure to read and follow, and a pleasure to look at!
Thanks,
Anne

How can I find your recipes on the Ami magazine?
Hi Miriam! First of all, I LOVE LOVE your blog and your recipes in AMI. I have a question about the Chanukah Gelt cookies (btw, I am more of a cook than a baker, so I am going to make these cookies and hope not to shame you and myself) Do they freeze well? I want to make them in advance for my family Chanukah party
