Nespresso VertuoLine Review: The Best Cup of Coffee I Ever Had

May 26, 2014 by overtimecook 7 Comments

Nespresso VertuoLine review: it makes perfectly delicious coffee at the press of one button!

nvr3

You know that blissful moment when the first cup of coffee touches your lips? Yeah, I live for that moment.

A couple of days ago, just at “that” moment, I exclaimed, “wow, my coffee is so good today!” I thought for a few seconds, then I amended my statement. “Well, actually, it’s amazing every morning…ever since I got my Nespresso machine!”

Before I go any further, I am going to be really clear here. The awesome folks at Nespresso have sent me a machine free of charge, for a review. It was particularly exciting, because this is a machine I’ve had my eye on for a while. I totally jumped at the opportunity to review their revolutionary new line – the Nespresso VertuoLine – because, well, coffee. Obviously, my opinions are completely honest, because I value the trust of my readers above all else!

So let’s talk about this. Nespresso Vertuoline. It’s the latest line by the premier single serve coffee machine maker, Nespresso. The VertuoLine has the unique ability to brew espresso (about two ounces) and full size coffee (just under a cup). Here’s the cool thing. The VertuoLine pods come in different flavors, strengths and sizes, they have a cool bar-code around the rim, like so:

Those black and white lines around the edge tell the VertuoLine which flavor the pod is, and therefore, exactly how to brew it. Because of this technology, every pod can be brewed differently, just perfect for that particular flavor.

And when I say perfect, I mean it. Seriously. The machine brews a strong, delightful cup of coffee, with a layer of foam, or crema on the top. My “drug of choice” is the blue coffee pods, “Odacio.” Their description is “bold and lively,” and let me tell you – that’s spot on. It wakes me up, makes my morning seem exciting (or at least decent).

I always say that the hardest part of making coffee is making coffee…before having coffee! Luckily, this machine is so simple to use, I can figure it out. Even before coffee. At 6:40 in the morning. No jokes guys, it’s just one button. Put in the pod, lock it in place, and press the button.

My friends and family who’ve been lucky enough to get a taste have unanimously voted that it’s the best coffee they ever tasted. Yes, better than getting their Starbucks fix. But you don’t have to take my word for it. You can head into a Nespresso Cafe, located in select Sur La Table locations, and a friendly, smiling employee will make you a cup of your choice of flavors. From the monagramed napkins to the personalized cups, they really make sure your experience there is pleasant. Honestly, I was amazed at how nice and friendly the employees were. Every time I went in! It’s like they like their jobs or something. Maybe it’s the free coffee?

The next thing I should mention is that the Nespresso is a classy looking machine – it’s the appliance you’re proud to have on your counter. Even their club is cool!keychain

Yes, that is a key to a jail on my key ring. Why do you ask?

Yep, that’s instead of a membership card. They wave it in front of the scanner in their store, and it knows your coffee preferences. I know, amazing, right?

So now that I’ve gushed about the Nespresso VertuoLine, and told you about my love affair with my daily coffee, let me tell you about the one big downside: the price. The machine itself runs between $269 and $299 on Amazon, depending on the color you choose. The pods aren’t cheap either, at a cost of 75 cents for the espresso size, and the 95 cents for the large size coffee.

So is it worth it?

Well, I drink a cup every morning, so obviously I think it is. If you’re used to making a cup of instant coffee (ugh), this will obviously be a lot more expensive. If you’re used to buying coffee, you’ll pay the same or less, for coffee that’s a heck of a lot better. For me, the ease of using this machine combined with the massive amount of enjoyment I get from it, has been well worth the cost (of the pods)- as evidenced by the fact that I’ve had a cup of coffee or espresso from my Nespresso VertuoLine every morning since I got it!

In conclusion: if good – no, great – coffee is important to you, if you don’t want to fuss over your coffee, this machine is your dream come true. While it might be a little pricey, if you’ve got a birthday or other special occasion coming up, you need to drop some hints about wanting a Nespresso Vertuoline!

Make sure to visit the Nespresso website for their full line of machines, pods and accessories.

Bonus: here’s how I make my perfect cup of coffee:

I put just under a cup of milk into a cup and microwave it for two minutes. (You’ll have to play around with the time because some microwaves are stronger than others). While the milk is heating up, I put an Odacio pod into my Nespresso machine and press the button, brewing it into a 16 ounce cup. They’re both ready about the same time. I pour the milk into the coffee, sweeten to taste. Stir gently, of course, because there’s the awesome crèma on the top!

Thanks friends for stopping by! Come back tomorrow for an amazing new pasta recipe (and a giveaway!) and then later in the week for a fabulously delicious dessert recipe! -Miriam

I also just got this machine– fabulous! I bought it at Bloomingdales, they had a great sale which they are likely to repeat which included $75.00 in credits towards buying the pods– so watch for another sale.

Having been a longtime barista, I am always skeptical of these machines…I feel like nothing can quite beat the original! That being said, I keep hearing amazing things about this machine! If only I could get a free machine to review for my blog…haha!

This design is steller! You obviously know how to
keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my
    own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Wonderful
job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
    Too cool!

I agree with you. Life is too short to drink Folgers. This machine and the coffee that comes with it is pure pleasure and that is why we work. We work for our pleasures. I’d say it’s worth every penny. Maybe the company could tamp down on the high dollar packaging and pass the savings on to the consumer. Everything from the machine to the coffee to the packaging is high end.
