December 31, 2012 by overtimecook 75 Comments

Giveaway Closed! It's been a fabulous year here at Overtime Cook. There have been loads of highlights...too many to list. But I am going to be a total cliche and list some of my most popular posts. First, starting with plain stats- here goes: Scroll all the way to the bottom for the giveaway! Healthy Oatmeal Pumpkin Pancakes: It's funny how things work out sometimes. I made these on a whim, and happened to take a nice picture of them. Months later and it's still usually the most popular post every day. Also, it's totally my favorite breakfast! And my blog's most popular post! Spicy Baked Zucchini Sticks: These are among my favorite real-life recipes, but they are also the first ever … [Read more...]

December 4, 2012 by overtimecook 12 Comments

People who know me are super lucky when it comes to buying gifts. I have such specific hobbies that if you want to buy me something, all it takes is a kitchen gadget or a photography "toy" and I am happy. I figured that some of you might be looking for gift ideas for kitchen loving folks in your life, so I put together a list. Most of these items are things I have and love, others are items that I want really badly. (This may or may not be a hint to people in my life. Ahem. Readers, I invite you to forward this link on to people in your life who might otherwise buy you a useless or unwanted gift. Hints are nice, right? Primary Colored Dessert Table for Charity Event

November 27, 2012 by overtimecook 17 Comments

On Saturday night, my amazing sister-in-law hosted a charity party for an amazing organization called Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society, or RCCS. They are an incredible organization that provides an array of services for families in my community that are dealing with cancer, including financial support, emotional support, insurance subsidies and advocacy, tuition grants, and a lot more. For those who don't know, they are currently holding a huge fundraising Chinese Auction, with local showings hosted by women in the community. My sister-in-law is awesome that way, so she hosted a showing of the auction in her neighborhood. Naturally, I stepped in to bake. I figured I would show y'all what I made, … [Read more...]

Sandy Update: It’s the little things

November 3, 2012 by overtimecook 11 Comments

My last post is begging for an update. When I wrote it, Sandy was an oft repeated name on news networks and media. It hadn't yet become a reality. And as you can see from my last post, I was in (at least) partial denial about how bad things had the potential to be. We survived Irene last year, right? How different could things be this time around? By now we all know just has different Sandy was from Irene. We all know of the destruction, the lives torn apart, the houses destroyed, the lives lost. The amazing thing is, despite the horrors that went on around us, a disaster like this brings out the best in people. Over the past couple of weeks, I've been at the receiving end of the most … [Read more...]

Party Pictures

July 31, 2012 by overtimecook 20 Comments

I know what you've been thinking. "She keeps talking about her party, and promising to show us her pictures, but she doesn't follow through! Why, I bet she didn't even make a party! Yeah right. I flatter myself thinking anyone was desperately waiting for these pictures. And I almost didn't show them off because they are seriously awful pictures. Here's what happened. The day of the party was crazy rushed, and I didn't have a second to take a picture until the guests were already starting to arrive. My mother was completely mortified because I made her stand guard and make sure nobody took anything while I finished putting on my makeup and getting my camera ready. So as you can imagine, I … [Read more...]
