Baked Red Velvet Donuts

Ingredients
  • ½ cup oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1½ teaspoons red food coloring (liquid)
  • ½ cup buttermilk or non-dairy sub (*see below)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • ⅔ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1¼ cups flour
  • 4 tsp cocoa powder
  • pinch salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425. Grease a full sized or mini donut pan well and set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the first five ingredients (all liquid) until combined.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and stir until smooth.
  4. Place mixture into a piping bag or a plastic bag with a hole cut out of the corner and pipe the batter into prepared donut holes, filling each cavity about ⅔rds full.
  5. Bake at 425 for 8 minutes for a large donut pan, or 5 minutes for a small one.
  6. Set aside to cool completely before glazing.
  7. Once cooled, dip into cream cheese glaze (recipe follows) and decorate with colored sprinkles or sugar.
