I dunno, but there's definitely something about that. In anticipation, I planned to post this recipe yesterday. I figured that with the Northeast all snowed in under a "blizzard of the century," you'd all be baking cookies, and would appreciate a new one to try. Well, turns out that the entire world (or so it seems) was baking cookies, but … [Read more...]

Orange Glazed Orange Cookies

January 13, 2015 by overtimecook 33 Comments

Bursting with orange flavor and boasting an incredibly chewy and melt-in-your-mouth texture, these orange glazed orange cookies are about to become your new favorite! This post is for my sister, Sarah. Don't worry, the rest of you guys can read along. You see, when Sarah got married a couple of years ago and moved to Israel, I went from seeing her almost daily, to seeing her...once or twice a year. And then she had a baby, but I didn't get to meet my adorable niece until she was about ten months old. It was tough...missing all of her early milestones. Phone calls, photos, even videos - it just isn't the same. It's a big world, and even with technology making it smaller, family … [Read more...]

See, if you tell me you're not sick of fried food by the sixth night of chanukah, I'll probably think you're nuts. But if you are sick of donuts, that means you might not want donuts and latkes and...um, donuts. latkes. You can't be sick of those yet, right?! Well good news. These adorable donut cookies have all the fun and looks of a fresh donut, but without all those calories! ***Before we start – have you signed up for my email newsletters? You’ll get new recipes, cooking tips, menu suggestions, kitchen deals  – and more! Click here to signup.*** I have a love-hate relationship with donuts. And I have a feeling you do too. Everyone's gotta admit that there are few things more delicious than a fresh, delicious, fluffy donut. Whether you like yours filled with jelly, custard, caramel, or something else, or whether you like yours with a hole in the middle and topped with a silky glaze, you have to admit: donuts are awesome. But donuts have their … [Read more...]

Cookies and Cream Muddy Buddies

November 10, 2014 by overtimecook 19 Comments

A classic cereal treat gets a favorite flavor makeover in these Cookies and Cream Muddy Buddies! Muddy buddies will always remind me of my dorm. It sometimes feels like a previous life, but this classic cereal treat brings me back to those days. Teenagers in some little apartment, constantly noshing on junk food. With basically no kitchen equipment except for a microwave and toaster oven, we got all creative. Firstly, the school would pay for our breakfast, so we ordered lots of Chex every week. They probably thought we were big cereal eaters....I guess we were, but not in the way they intended! Next, we learned quickly all of the creative ways we could use the microwave and toaster ovens … [Read more...]

Carrot Cake Sandwich Cookies with Cream Cheese Filling

September 16, 2014 by overtimecook 14 Comments

Carrot Cake Sandwich Cookies are perfect for fall: soft and cake-y cookies with cream cheese filling in the middle! I don't have much to say today. Or maybe I have too much to say? All I know is that I'm exhausted, thinking too much about food - holiday food in particular - and it's not even Rosh Hashanah yet. I love hearing from all of you, seeing pictures of the recipes you're making from this blog, advising you on menu plans, etc. And it leaves me wondering...are you all exhausted too? Do you feel the burnout yet? Or does the thought of having your freezer stocked with all the holiday food you could ever need keep you going? Well either way, I really hope there's room for one more … [Read more...]

White Chocolate Pomegranate Tarts

September 10, 2014 by overtimecook 10 Comments

White Chocolate Pomegranate Tarts are a dainty little dessert with a burst of fresh flavor! So, let's take a little poll here. Who's sick of me talking about Rosh Hashanah recipes? I know. I know. First there was the list of 15 desserts that you can make ahead and freeze for the holidays. Then I shared a new chicken dish that's got both apple and honey in it (I know, it's a perfect chicken recipe for Rosh Hashanah!) followed by an amazing new apple biscotti recipe. Well I aint' done yet, so stay with me folks. Today I'm moving away from the apples for a bit, and instead I'm sharing a pomegranate recipe. I love the combination of white chocolate and pomegranate, and these tarts … [Read more...]

S’mores Bundt Cake

August 14, 2014 by overtimecook 28 Comments

Graham cracker, chocolate and marshmallow...it's the flavors of summer baked into a S'mores Bundt Cake!  Even if you haven't been paying really close attention, you might have noticed how I am kinda into s'mores. My first s'mores inspired treat were my S'mores Brownie Bites, way back in my first month of blogging. I kept at it many times since then, with cookies, cheesecake, truffles and pie. I'm not alone in my love of s'mores, right? I mean, various combinations of graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows are popping up in all kinds of desserts, all over the place. Is it the nostalgia of enjoying a childhood treat that makes the flavor combination so popular? Or maybe it's … [Read more...]

Chocolate Cherry Pie and my 3 Year Blogiversary!

August 7, 2014 by overtimecook 28 Comments

Celebrate my three years of blogging with a decadent treat: chocolate cherry pie! With a layer of gooey fudge, a layer of fresh cherry filling and a chocolate pie crust to tie it all together, this is the ultimate summer treat! Three years people! That's about 2 years and 50 weeks longer than I thought I would be doing this for. Back on August 7th, 2011, when I published my first post, if you had told me that I would still be at it, three years later, I would have laughed. Out loud. This was going to be a fun little hobby that I would drop when I got bored and found a new hobby. Somehow, over the last couple of years, the whole thing evolved completely. It went from hobby into a … [Read more...]
