It all started four years ago today.
August 7th, 2011 was the day I published my first post here on Overtime Cook.I’ve written previously about how my blog got started. In short, I was bored (at least creatively) and needed a hobby. So I purchased the domain name overtimecook.com and posted my first recipe. Behold: Peanut Butter Truffle Stuffed Oreos.
Not too bad for an iphone photo and a gal with zero experience!
What started that day has become so much more than a hobby. It’s become a life-changing passion. So much has happened in the last four years. Millions (literally!) of readers, a magazine column, a thriving food photography business, and lots of new friends. And now, of course, the highlight of it all: I’m now a cookbook author! (If you missed it, Something Sweet is now available for pre-order from ArtScroll (use promo code OTC and they’ll have me sign your book before they send it out – and you’ll get FREE shipping in the USA) or Amazon (where you’ll get their pre-order price guarantee!)
But today isn’t about celebrating my achievements of the last four years, but about celebrating you, my amazing and loyal followers, who have stuck with me for the last four years. I’ve said it so many times in the past, but I’ll say it again because it’s important: you guys are the ones that kept me going! So today, instead of celebrating with cupcakes or a fancy cake, I decided to celebrate with a giveaway. I wish I could give something to each and every one of you, but since that’s not an option, I’m going to give all of you the chance to enter to win a bundle of my favorite kitchen tools, sponsored by yours truly, as my thank you to my readers.
So here’s the deal. 4 year blog birthday giveaway includes the following items that I use in my own kitchen (valued at over $100)
OXO Cookie Scoop This is a MUST HAVE for every baker! The best way to get perfectly even, well baked cookies.
19 Piece Measuring Cups Set This tool saves a ton of time when baking – no need to measure out a quarter of a cup three times – this comes with a 3/4 cup measuring cup! It also has 2/3 cup, 1 1/2 cups, etc. Seriously useful.
11 Inch Whisk Great kitchen tool that I use in so many things – including batters, salad dressings, marinades, glazes, etc. This one is my personal favorite!
Nordic Ware Bundt Pan Half the secret to beautiful bundt cakes that come right out of the pan is a good bundt pan. This is the one I personally use, and recommend to readers!
Nielsen Massey Vanilla Bean Paste Once you try this, you’ll be hooked! It’s got amazing flavor, and looks so pretty in baked goods due to actual flecks of vanilla bean in the paste. (Use it in the same measurements as extract in recipes)
8 Inch Chef’s Knife Absolute kitchen necessity. There are very pricey knives, which quite honestly, are amazing, but this one is affordable and works really well.
Mini Muffin Pan Because I believe everything is better in mini! Whether for a party or for portion control, or simply because they look so darn cute, bake your cupcakes and muffins in mini (they usually need about half the baking time of full sized cupcakes) for bite sized treats.
King Arthur Flour Cookie Companion Cookbook This is one of my favorite cookbooks that really got me started on my love of baking. It’s not flashy, doesn’t have many photos, but it’s got incredible recipes that you’ll absolutely love!
Giveaway is over! Congrats to the winner, Nechama!
