BBQ Meatball Hamantaschen
Author: Miriam Pascal, OvertimeCook.com
Recipe type: Appetizer
Serves: 2 dozen hamantaschen

Ingredients
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 Tablespoon spicy brown mustard
  • ½ lb ground beef
  • 1 package (24 pieces) mini pizza dough rounds (2-3 inches)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together barbecue sauce, paprika, ground ginger, chili powder and mustard until combined.
  3. Place meat into a medium bowl and add ⅔ of the sauce. Mix to distribute the sauce through the meat. Form the mixture into 24 small meatballs. Reserve remaining sauce.
  4. Brush a bit of the reserved sauce in the center of a pizza dough round, then place a meatball on top of it. Fold the circle into the three cornered hamantashen shape, then place on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Repeat with remaining dough, sauce and meatballs. Brush sauce over the tops of each hamantash. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden and the dough is cooked through.
Plan Ahead:
  1. These hamantaschen freeze well in an airtight container or bag.

Hi. Is the ginger necessary? I’m not a huge fan of ginger.

I made these today- absolutely fabulous! (I added a bit of honey because I was afraid they would be too spicy, but I think it would be great either way). I will be serving these with a honey mustard dip. TIP-place closer together on baking sheet (almost touching) and closse them well as the liquid from the meat makes them open a little….)

BBQ Sauce mixed with mayo, or a garlic mayo.

Huge hit at the Purim seuda! (I added a bit of honey and swerved with a dijon, honey dipping sauce)
