Anyone reading this who's been a reader for any length of time will know that I love to bake, and more specifically, to experiment and have fun with all kinds of fun recipes. From recent recipes like S'mores Cheesecake and Zebra Bundt Cake, to older but still fun recipes like Pretzel Coated Chocolate Cookies and Cream Cheese Swirled Chocolate Fudge Cake, I try to share fun and unique recipes with you folks. But sometimes I like to share some more basic recipes. Things like Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies and Blueberry Muffins may not be unique or different, but I definitely think they are recipes worth sharing. Today's recipe is more along the lines of the basic, staple type recipes. It's not … [Read more...]
Party Pictures
I know what you've been thinking. "She keeps talking about her party, and promising to show us her pictures, but she doesn't follow through! Why, I bet she didn't even make a party! Yeah right. I flatter myself thinking anyone was desperately waiting for these pictures. And I almost didn't show them off because they are seriously awful pictures. Here's what happened. The day of the party was crazy rushed, and I didn't have a second to take a picture until the guests were already starting to arrive. My mother was completely mortified because I made her stand guard and make sure nobody took anything while I finished putting on my makeup and getting my camera ready. So as you can imagine, I … [Read more...]
Cookie Dough Thumbprint Cookies and a Cookie Dough Lover’s Cookbook Review
I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to have been given the opportunity to review The Cookie Dough Lover's Cookbook, by Lindsay Landis (of Love and Olive Oil Fame). I have been a fan of Lindsay's for ages, and from the minute I picked up this book I was amazed by her creativity and ideas. At First Glance: I loved this cookbook from the moment I picked it up. Before I even read any of the recipes, I noticed that the pictures (all taken by Lindsay herself- speak of talented!) are unbelievably eye-catching and drool-inducing. It's hard to look at this cookbook when you're on a diet (trust me, I had to do it!) because you will want to make every single thing in it. And you won't like not … [Read more...]
Best Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
I know that many people out there are not very big fans of Nestle Toll House cookie. I am not one of those people. I think that Ruth Wakefield was a genius, and I never found any need to change it up. Sure, I made some fun plays on chocolate chip cookies from time to time, but the basic recipe never failed me. One day I had a radical idea of trying a couple of chocolate chip cookie recipes to see if anyone had improved on the original. Shortly after that, I discovered this recipe, claiming to be the best chewy chocolate chip cookies in the world. Sounds intriguing, doesn't it? I decided I had to make them. Then I got busy making a whole ton of other types of cookies, and my plan of … [Read more...]
Graduation Cookies {How To}
My baby sister (she'll kill me for writing that...hehehe) is graduating high school next week. Here's the thing: her graduation is in Denver, and I am in New York. I figured if I can't attend in person, I would celebrate with her in the way I know best. Yeah, that's right. Cookies. Decorated cookies, to be precise. These were super fun to make, and a lot less stressful than the last time I made royal icing cookies. That may or may not have to do with the fact that I made 15 cookies, instead of 120. Hmm. Here's what I did. Inspired by these cookies. Let's start with the diploma. You'll need: Baked sugar cookies, cut out with a diploma shaped cookie cutter (available from Wilton) Royal … [Read more...]
Brown Butter Triple Chunk Cream Cheese Cookies
In my haste to publish my post yesterday, I think I neglected to mention for the benefit of my non-Jewish readers that it's traditional to eat dairy on the upcoming holiday of Shavuos/t. And so, while I generally bake everything non-dairy, in honor of the holiday, I pulled out my dairy mixer, bought more cream cheese and butter than I care to disclose, and got to work salivating over the recipes I will make. Cheesecakes and the like are a no-brainer, but I really wanted to make a cookie. I have to live up to my name as The Cookie Girl. However, just using butter instead of my usual margarine didn't seem worthy of my (basically) once a year dairy fest. No, I needed more. A couple of minutes … [Read more...]
Engagement Cookies {How-To}
Thank you to all the awesome people who have commented, emailed, tweeted and otherwise complimented me on the treats I made for my sister's engagement party. I put so many countless hours of work, about 20 pounds of flour, bags and bags of sugar of all varieties, and finally pulled it all off. I just showed you folks the various goodies I made for the party, but I saved the best for the last. The center of the middle table had these: From a glance, they might simply look like wooden branches in really cool vases. But look close and you can see there are delicious little flowers sprouting from the branches. You know how they saw money doesn't grow on trees? Well here's something super … [Read more...]
Triple Chocolate Oreo Chunk Cookies
Wow, it's been a while, hasn't it? First there was Passover, and I posted fewer recipes than usual. Then came my sister's engagement, pretty soon after passover, and I spent every spare moment making all kinds of outrageously amazing and gorgeous treats for the party. I will be sharing some of those treats with you folks, but first, I am going to share these simple cookies. I made them just before the party, after I panicked that there were no plain and simple cookies for folks who didn't want my more extravagant treats. I'm not really sure what to say about these cookies. Not because they aren't amazing, because they are. I've made them numerous times. Each time, they were demolished … [Read more...]
Cookies and Cream Biscotti
This recipe was originally going to be posted before Passover. I made them a couple of weeks prior to the Holiday, and was going to post them as a great way to use up a package of Oreos that you might find in your cabinet. Then they didn't get posted. Mostly because I was already on to Passover recipes. I have to say, if there's one great way to celebrate the ability to bake again (after Passover) this has got to be it. Not only does the recipe use flour, but it used oreos too- a totally non-Passover ingredient. If you are on the lookout for a great recipe to get you started after Pesach, or if you (like me!) think that all foods can be improved with the addition of Oreos, or you simply … [Read more...]
Flourless Chocolate Cookies
Flourless Chocolate Cookies are like little clouds made of chocolate! Have you ever wondered what life would be like if clouds were made of chocolate? You haven't? I guess you aren't baking obsessed. Like me. The answer? Well, for starters, rain storms would be a whole lot more fun, wouldn't they? If I've gotten you curious about chocolate clouds, and you totally want to experience them, well here's your chance. These cookies aren't going to rain any time soon which is totally a shame but when you bite into a fresh hot cookie you'll feel what a chocolate cloud is like. I've had my eye on various versions of this recipe for ages, and because they are flourless, I decided that … [Read more...]
