Hey everyone! Welcome to my blog’s sixth birthday party. I’m glad you could make it.
I bet I know what you’re thinking. Who serves cocktails at a sixth birthday party?! Well, when it’s a blog birthday, it’s totally okay, because let’s face it. Six years in blog years equals up to a whole let more than 21 people years. In blog years, I’m an old lady and I’ve been around the block a few times.
That’s right. Blogging has changed so much in the last six years. When I started, Pinterest didn’t exist yet, and Instagram was a baby app that nobody used yet. Kosher recipes and sites were not as readily available as they are currently, and the whole concept of being a “foodie” wasn’t quite what it has become by now. Over the last six years, as I’ve watched all of the changes take place, the one constant was always…you. That’s right, you, the reader, have been there with me throughout it all. You’ve been trying my recipes, giving me feedback, sending my pictures, and giving me the push to keep on going!
Maybe I don’t say this often enough, but you guys are awesome and I’m so glad you’re all here!
The last six years have been a crazy ride. I have developed a ton of recipes, many for this blog, a bunch for some magazines, and a whole ton for my cookbooks (yep, in case you missed it, cookbook number two is due out in November!) I’ve been working as a freelance photographer for restaurants, magazines, food companies and more (I think this one has been the most surprising!) I’ve had the opportunity to travel around the country (and internationally) to give cooking demos and classes (email me to schedule one!). I’ve also been privileged to interact with tens of thousands of fans, but more importantly, I’ve been blessed to find my recipes gracing your tables and enhancing your special occasions. And that means the world to me.
On August 7th, 2011 (a million blog years ago) I posted the first ever post on this blog: Peanut Butter Truffle Stuffed Oreos (a fantastic recipe that y’all need to try!) And I haven’t looked back since! To thank you guys for visiting, reading, cooking, baking and interacting, I’ve got a giveaway for you guys. This isn’t sponsored by any company. It’s from me – because I genuinely appreciate all of you!
One lucky winner will receive a $100 Amazon Gift Card!

And now, for the recipe! I’ve been dreaming of vacation in tropical paradise all summer, but to be honest, I’m stuck inside all summer, working on finishing up my cookbook. So instead, I’m making this Tropical Sky Cocktail, closing my eyes, and pretending I’m somewhere exciting. It kinda works. 😉 Try it and you’ll see!

- 4 ounces (1/2 cup) passion fruit juice (available in a box from Ceres brand)
- 1 ounce rum (or passion fruit flavored rum)
- 1 ounce blue curacao (available with an OU from Leroux brand), see below
- corn syrup, optional, for garnish
- blue sanding sugar, optional, for garnish
- Combine passion fruit juice, rum and blue curacao in a coctail shaker or pitcher with ice. Shake or stir to combine, then strain into a glass.
- If desired, decorate the rim of the glass as shown in the picture by dipping the rim first into corn syrup, then into the sugar.
- This is a delicious liqueur made from a fruit grown on the island of Curacao. It's got a great flavor, and the added blue color adds a fun tropical look to this cocktail. You can pick this up in your local liquor store, next to the other flavored liqueurs.
