A cross between a hamantasch and a peanut butter cup, these Peanut Butter Filled Brownie Hamantaschen will be the most delicious cookie you've tasted! Nowadays, everyone is scrambling to invent the cutest, prettiest, most exciting hamantaschen ever. And the ideas keep exploding. But here's the thing. I like pretty food. I like exciting food. Chocolate Crepes with Strawberry Filling

February 5, 2014 by overtimecook 5 Comments

Chocolate Crepes with strawberry filling, topped with ice cream, make a perfect special-occasion dessert! Wow. It's been a while since I last posted a recipe here, huh? Good thing it was a good one, amIright?  Well today's recipe is an awesome one too. It's one that I developed because I totally listen to your recipe requests. One request I had gotten all the time is "please post cookie recipes that are made with oil!" (As opposed to margarine or butter.) So I did. Another request I get all the time: to post recipes for a beautiful dessert, perfect for special occasions. Well, it don't get more beautiful, more perfect for special occasions than these delightful Chocolate Crepes. … [Read more...]

S’mores Pie

January 22, 2014 by overtimecook 42 Comments

  Gooey Chocolate in a graham cracker crust topped with marshmallow frosting - S'mores Pie is the ultimate in easy desserts! A couple of weeks ago, I wanted to make a special treat for a special occasion. But I was tired. So I had this whole internal debate - should I make a fancy dessert, or should I skip the special occasion and go to sleep. Back and forth, back and forth. I was just too tired to do anything fancy. And before you ask, no, a simple dessert just wouldn't cut it. Then finally, I came up with the (obvious) solution. Make a dessert that looks fancy, but is actually pretty simple to make. Perfect, right? So I came up with this s'mores pie. Super easy, but I mean, … [Read more...]

It's been great so far, and I am definitely adjusting to the whole "eat healthier" thing, but everyone needs a treat now and then, right? Nutella crunch cookies combine all of the best things about chocolate and cookies in one delicious bite! I know, I just posted about my new diet, and now I am posting cookies. It's a tough and confusing life I lead, but I sure am glad to have you join me for the ride! Now, let's talk cookies. Wait, first, let's talk about my total obsession with Nutella. A friend of mine with a nut-allergic kid complained to me about my nutella obsession recently, but I just can't help myself. The stuff is delicious. Plus we all know that cookies are delicious. What do you get when you combine the two? Well, let's put it this way: not something you want around when you're on a diet! These cookies are … [Read more...]

Baked Mini Cookies and Cream Donuts

Click here to signup.*** I have to admit, my feelings about baked donuts used to be very mixed. If you look doughnut up in the dictionary (and I sure did) you'll see that the definition reads: dough·nut noun -(ˌ)nət : a piece of sweet fried dough that is often shaped like a ring Notice the part where it says...fried? And notice how it totally doesn't say "baked"? Yeah, me too. And being a bit of a stickler for things like this, I really didn't like the idea of calling a baked dessert a donut. Or a doughnut. Then I went and did … [Read more...]

Marbled Pumpkin Bundt Cake with Brown Sugar Glaze

October 6, 2013 by overtimecook 30 Comments

I feel like I spend a lot of time describing recipes as "the best" or "the most popular" or maybe "the most successful" of the sort that I have ever made. My editor mentioned it to me recently. "You know, Miriam, if you keep telling your readers that the recipe is "the best you ever made," they might stop believing you. How many bests can you have?" Well, I don't know what it is with me and all of these superlatives, but this recipe? It deserves it. You'll have to trust me where this cake is concerned. Firstly, pumpkin has a magical effect on baked goods. It turns the treat moist and soft and so plain delicious. Add spices, chocolate and some other goodies, and you're left with a bundt … [Read more...]

Chocolate Sugar Cookies and a Second Blogiversary! {Giveaway!}

August 7, 2013 by overtimecook 272 Comments

Honestly, I never thought today would come. Not the date, that's a given. Not Wednesday, that's just...Monday III. No, when I say that I never expected today to come, I mean this post. Right now. Right here. Me, celebrating the second anniversary of the date that I pressed "publish" on my first ever post. Last year, on my first blogiversary, I talked about how much I deliberated before I started my blog. And I discussed how utterly amazed I was when people started to come, to read, and to cook. And over the last 12 months, my amazement has grown, just like the blog. It's amazing how many of you come visit my tiny little corner of the internet. I'm awed and flattered to be a part of so … [Read more...]

July 22, 2013 by overtimecook 7 Comments

These dense and crunchy Oatmeal Peanut Butter M&M Cookies are a party in your mouth! Read on... I can't even tell you how many times I intended to post this recipe. I made it a whole bunch of times. And each time these adorable looking cookies got rave reviews. But somehow I never managed to write down the recipe. And worse, never got to photograph these cookies. And so for months, these cookies went un-posted. And that's a shame, because they're really delicious. So I sacrificed for all of you. I baked up yet another batch of these cookies. On a fast day, of all days. Big mistake. These smell amazing when they bake, and my entire family was quite unhappy with me, forced to smell … [Read more...]
