Ever since I made that zebra cake months ago, I have been completely fascinated by the possibilities that this method allows. Zebra cheesecake, zebra cupcakes, zebra layer cake...I totally want to try all of those. Enter pinterest and the ideas seriously don't end! Then I saw this Zebra Bunt Cake on Bakers Royale, and I was totally infatuated. Combine zebra style with my favorite kind of cake (bundt cake, duh) and you have a gorgeous and winning dessert. Best thing about this cake? It looks gorgeous, but it totally tastes amazing too! The zebra style does take an extra couple of minutes, but I think it's well worth it. If you're confused about how to get the pattern, scroll down for my … [Read more...]
Dark Truffle, Candied Cherry, and Toasted Almond Ice Cream
Tomorrow is the big party and I am freaking out about a million details I need to deal with. Good thing you guys won't have to miss out- I have an awesome guest post for you today! Carla from Chocolate Moosey has become a great blogging buddy of mine, and it's particularly fitting that she guest post here, because I met her initially through a guest post she did on another blog! Plus, Carla and I share a great love of desserts, which is pretty evident from posts of hers like these peanut butter nutella crinkles, these strawberry lemonade cupcakes and these chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake bars. (Plus, you know you gotta love a blog with an entire cheesecake section!) Anyway, check out … [Read more...]
Cookie Dough Thumbprint Cookies and a Cookie Dough Lover’s Cookbook Review
I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to have been given the opportunity to review The Cookie Dough Lover's Cookbook, by Lindsay Landis (of Love and Olive Oil Fame). I have been a fan of Lindsay's for ages, and from the minute I picked up this book I was amazed by her creativity and ideas. At First Glance: I loved this cookbook from the moment I picked it up. Before I even read any of the recipes, I noticed that the pictures (all taken by Lindsay herself- speak of talented!) are unbelievably eye-catching and drool-inducing. It's hard to look at this cookbook when you're on a diet (trust me, I had to do it!) because you will want to make every single thing in it. And you won't like not … [Read more...]
Best Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
I know that many people out there are not very big fans of Nestle Toll House cookie. I am not one of those people. I think that Ruth Wakefield was a genius, and I never found any need to change it up. Sure, I made some fun plays on chocolate chip cookies from time to time, but the basic recipe never failed me. One day I had a radical idea of trying a couple of chocolate chip cookie recipes to see if anyone had improved on the original. Shortly after that, I discovered this recipe, claiming to be the best chewy chocolate chip cookies in the world. Sounds intriguing, doesn't it? I decided I had to make them. Then I got busy making a whole ton of other types of cookies, and my plan of … [Read more...]
Homemade Milk Chocolate Fudge
My fudge story starts about two summers ago, when my mother took me and my siblings to Hershey Park. At some point, we went into one of the (seemingly millions of) little shops that line the entire park, begging the tourists, or perhaps quietly enticing them to spend more money they have on pretty much every conceivable gimmick with some animated-looking Hershey's candy splashed all over it. Don't get me wrong. I love souvenirs, so I'm not complaining. I willingly pranced into every store I could. Who needs roller coasters when you have mini slinkies decorated with happy looking chocolate bars? But I digress. At some point we walked into a little shop, and by the smell of things, it was … [Read more...]
Brown Butter Triple Chunk Cream Cheese Cookies
In my haste to publish my post yesterday, I think I neglected to mention for the benefit of my non-Jewish readers that it's traditional to eat dairy on the upcoming holiday of Shavuos/t. And so, while I generally bake everything non-dairy, in honor of the holiday, I pulled out my dairy mixer, bought more cream cheese and butter than I care to disclose, and got to work salivating over the recipes I will make. Cheesecakes and the like are a no-brainer, but I really wanted to make a cookie. I have to live up to my name as The Cookie Girl. However, just using butter instead of my usual margarine didn't seem worthy of my (basically) once a year dairy fest. No, I needed more. A couple of minutes … [Read more...]
Triple Chocolate Oreo Chunk Cookies
Wow, it's been a while, hasn't it? First there was Passover, and I posted fewer recipes than usual. Then came my sister's engagement, pretty soon after passover, and I spent every spare moment making all kinds of outrageously amazing and gorgeous treats for the party. I will be sharing some of those treats with you folks, but first, I am going to share these simple cookies. I made them just before the party, after I panicked that there were no plain and simple cookies for folks who didn't want my more extravagant treats. I'm not really sure what to say about these cookies. Not because they aren't amazing, because they are. I've made them numerous times. Each time, they were demolished … [Read more...]
Guest Post: Homemade Chocolate Caramels
Let's start with some super exciting news: My big sister is engaged! She got engaged this past Thursday night, and we are all super excited for her. :) There's an engagement party next Sunday, so I plan to spend the week making all kinds of fancy treats for it. As you can imagine, my blogging time will be very limited, so my friend Rachel Sicherman agreed to step in and write an awesome post for you guys to enjoy while I am knee deep in Royal Icing and Buttercream Frosting. Rachel is not only the savviest shopper I have ever met (and she writes excellent shopping tips for the ordinary folks among us on her blog) but she is also the only person I know other than myself who finds … [Read more...]
Cookies and Cream Biscotti
This recipe was originally going to be posted before Passover. I made them a couple of weeks prior to the Holiday, and was going to post them as a great way to use up a package of Oreos that you might find in your cabinet. Then they didn't get posted. Mostly because I was already on to Passover recipes. I have to say, if there's one great way to celebrate the ability to bake again (after Passover) this has got to be it. Not only does the recipe use flour, but it used oreos too- a totally non-Passover ingredient. If you are on the lookout for a great recipe to get you started after Pesach, or if you (like me!) think that all foods can be improved with the addition of Oreos, or you simply … [Read more...]
Flourless Chocolate Cookies
Flourless Chocolate Cookies are like little clouds made of chocolate! Have you ever wondered what life would be like if clouds were made of chocolate? You haven't? I guess you aren't baking obsessed. Like me. The answer? Well, for starters, rain storms would be a whole lot more fun, wouldn't they? If I've gotten you curious about chocolate clouds, and you totally want to experience them, well here's your chance. These cookies aren't going to rain any time soon which is totally a shame but when you bite into a fresh hot cookie you'll feel what a chocolate cloud is like. I've had my eye on various versions of this recipe for ages, and because they are flourless, I decided that … [Read more...]
