Sweet and Spicy Maple Roasted Pecans
These Sweet and Spicy Maple Roasted Pecans have just the right blend of flavors to keep you coming back for more! Can we talk about addictive foods? Some foods, like chocolate, are always high up there on my "I need that" list. Ice cream is on that list too. Cookies also. But when you think of foods that make it really hard for you to stop after one or two, what do you think of? Many of us think of chips. Potato chips, corn chips...mmm. Definitely don't like to stop after just one of those! But for me, the most addictive - and I mean don't-stop-till-they-are-gone addictive food is nuts. And more specifically, pecans. And even more specifically, these sweet and spicy maple roasted … [Read more...]
Maple Pumpkin Granola
There are certain foods which I seem to forget about for a while, then I remember them suddenly. And as I eat said food, I kick myself as I wonder why I don't make it more often. Like, every day, for example. My Spicy Baked Zucchini Sticks are a perfect example of this. They are among the most popular recipes on this blog, and for very good reason. And I often forget that I've got such a delicious and easy recipe in my repertoire. Then I make them, and I get all confused as to why I haven't been making them daily since the day I came up with the recipe. Well, it turns out that homemade granola is another such example. I've made homemade granola plenty of times in the past, and totally … [Read more...]
Baked Peanut Butter or Nutella Donuts
Remember how I recently discussed how hard I find the process of making decisions? Well tonight's post is basically a post script to that one, because if you thought deciding between pecan pie or brownies was hard, imagine trying to decide between chocolate glazed peanut butter donuts or glazed nutella (chocolate hazelnut) donuts! I know, it totally boggles the mind. Well I, for one, don't believe in making such difficult decisions. So I thought to myself...why choose? Yep, that's right. I made both peanut butter donuts and nutella donuts. Which means, if you think about it, that these donuts are super easy to make. Because I started making them late at night, and still had time and … [Read more...]
Pecan Pie Topped Mini Fudge Brownie Pies
Let's talk about decisions, shall we? I don't know about you, but I for one, hate making them. I'm talking about literally the smallest decisions there are. Like in the ice cream store when they ask if I want chocolate, vanilla or mixed. Um, so I know I don't want plain vanilla; my love of chocolate is just too strong. But as between chocolate or mixed...I don't know! How should I decide? And when the decisions get bigger, oy. Don't get me started. I hate decisions. That's why this dessert is so darn awesome! Say you just finished a humongous meal, like, the biggest one of the year. It's time for dessert, and you don't have much room. Imagine choosing between a fudgey chocolatey dessert … [Read more...]
Sweet and Salty Roasted Pecans
Today on my blog I will introduce you to a different side of my cooking. This isn't my usual decadent and totally fattening dessert who's description, however vivid, is written solely based on the reviews and word of others. Nor is this a healthful recipe that I eat when trying to lose weight. No, this is my guilty little pleasure. My latest addiction, in the interest of full honesty. You may have noticed based on the number of peanut butter based treats on this blog that I adore the combination of sweet and salty. True, those treats are made so I can live vicariously (or simply fatteningly) through others, but still, I make what I want to eat. Not these. I made a batch of these and … [Read more...]
Tiny Pecan Pies and a Pie Crust Tutorial
Until a couple of months ago I was absolutely terrified of making my own pie crust. Any and all desserts that involved pie crust started with one out of the freezer aisle in the grocery store. Then one of my coworkers asked if he could order a pie as a treat for his family for Rosh Hashanah. My first instinct was to say no, after all, I had never made a pie crust, and didn't want to try it for the first time on a customers. But as I have mentioned before, I never like to turn down a customer, so I did some research, and I said yes. I explained that it was going to be my first time making a homemade pie crust, and he agreed. I spent a long time searching the internet for advice and … [Read more...]
