Chocolate Crepes with Strawberry Filling

February 5, 2014 by overtimecook 5 Comments

Chocolate Crepes with strawberry filling, topped with ice cream, make a perfect special-occasion dessert! Wow. It's been a while since I last posted a recipe here, huh? Good thing it was a good one, amIright?  Well today's recipe is an awesome one too. It's one that I developed because I totally listen to your recipe requests. One request I had gotten all the time is "please post cookie recipes that are made with oil!" (As opposed to margarine or butter.) So I did. Another request I get all the time: to post recipes for a beautiful dessert, perfect for special occasions. Well, it don't get more beautiful, more perfect for special occasions than these delightful Chocolate Crepes. … [Read more...]

Sweet and Spicy Maple Roasted Pecans

December 16, 2013 by overtimecook 8 Comments

These Sweet and Spicy Maple Roasted Pecans have just the right blend of flavors to keep you coming back for more! Can we talk about addictive foods? Some foods, like chocolate, are always high up there on my "I need that" list. Ice cream is on that list too. Cookies also. But when you think of foods that make it really hard for you to stop after one or two, what do you think of? Many of us think of chips. Potato chips, corn chips...mmm. Definitely don't like to stop after just one of those! But for me, the most addictive - and I mean don't-stop-till-they-are-gone addictive food is nuts. And more specifically, pecans. And even more specifically, these sweet and spicy maple roasted … [Read more...]

***Before we start – have you signed up for my email newsletters? You’ll get new recipes, cooking tips, menu suggestions, kitchen deals  – and more! Click here to signup.*** When you think about Thanksgiving, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Is it family? For me it is. I think about family. Specifically, my mother. She was born on Thanksgiving (the story is that my grandmother wasn't sure if she was in labor or had indigestion from too much turkey!) so every year, Thanksgiving means it’s my mother’s birthday celebration. When I was tasked with putting together a delicious new dish for Thanksgiving, I thought of making a dish my mom would - and could - enjoy. In the last few … [Read more...]

Giveaway Closed! I am totally excited about the book I am reviewing (and giving away!) today! I usually review ordinary cookbooks, but today I am reviewing something kind of different. Because of that, I am not going to do my regular set of cookbook review questions, but let me tell you about this fabulous book. I still remember the first time I discovered Bridget Edward's blog. My jaw dropped open further and further as I clicked for another page, and another. The woman is insanely talented, and has the most fabulous cookie decorating ideas! When I heard she was coming out with a book, I knew I had to get my hands on it. And this book didn't disappoint. Decorating Cookies starts out with … [Read more...]

Primary Colored Dessert Table for Charity Event

November 27, 2012 by overtimecook 17 Comments

On Saturday night, my amazing sister-in-law hosted a charity party for an amazing organization called Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society, or RCCS. They are an incredible organization that provides an array of services for families in my community that are dealing with cancer, including financial support, emotional support, insurance subsidies and advocacy, tuition grants, and a lot more. For those who don't know, they are currently holding a huge fundraising Chinese Auction, with local showings hosted by women in the community. My sister-in-law is awesome that way, so she hosted a showing of the auction in her neighborhood. Naturally, I stepped in to bake. I figured I would show y'all what I made, … [Read more...]

Engagement Cookies {How-To}

May 16, 2012 by overtimecook 18 Comments

Thank you to all the awesome people who have commented, emailed, tweeted and otherwise complimented me on the treats I made for my sister's engagement party. I put so many countless hours of work, about 20 pounds of flour, bags and bags of sugar of all varieties, and finally pulled it all off. I just showed you folks the various goodies I made for the party, but I saved the best for the last. The center of the middle table had these: From a glance, they might simply look like wooden branches in really cool vases. But look close and you can see there are delicious little flowers sprouting from the branches. You know how they saw money doesn't grow on trees? Well here's something super … [Read more...]
