I recently invited my friend Dani Goldblatt, of Holy Smokes Kosher BBQ (check out here brilliant recipes and ideas here) to my home to cook some delicious meat delicacies with me, and this crazy-amazing recipe is what we came up with. The flavors in this Onion and Beef Bacon Relish are wild – deep, complex, and everything works so well together. This relish would be perfect to eat on challah or sourdough, or serve it over a steak (tutorial on that coming soon!).

Onion and Beef Bacon Relish
Recipe by Dani Goldblatt of Holy Smokes Kosher BBQ and Miriam (Pascal) Cohen
Ingredients
- 6-8 oz beef bacon or beef fry, diced
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 Tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 Tablespoon strong brewed coffee or espresso
- 1 Tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Place beef bacon in a cold pan and and turn on heat to low. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 7-10 minutes, until the fat renders out. (Keep an eye on it to ensure the beef bacon doesn’t burn towards the end.) Remove beef bacon from pan and leave the fat in the pan.
- Increase heat to medium-high. Add onions and cook for about 10 minutes, until the onions get some color. Add soy sauce, coffee and balsamic vinegar. Cook for 3-4 minutes, until the liquid is absorbed. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm.
Notes
Note: Some brands of beef bacon are saltier than others, so don’t add any salt until tasting it.
Plan ahead: Onion and Beef Bacon Relish can be stored in the fridge for up to a week or frozen, in an airtight container.
