Fried Cabbage Wontons
Fried Cabbage Wontons: crunchy on the outside, a savory cabbage filling, and a delicious honey-soy dipping sauce! I first made these a couple of years ago. I don't remember exactly how long it's been, but it was long enough that when I was at my sister's house for Rosh Hashanah, she pulled out a plate of cabbage wontons and mentioned it was my recipe. I was like, what? Then I remembered this delicious appetizer, and knew I had to share it with you guys! Also, my sister said she didn't think I'd mention her if something she served me over the holiday would inspire a post on my blog. Well it did, and here I am. You can all say hi to my sister - who's an excellent hostess but happened to be … [Read more...]
Grilled Corn and Pastrami Salad
Grilled Corn and Pastrami Salad has an amazing smoky flavor, bringing together all of the best things about summer food! I'm feeling deja vu here. I know, this recipe is brand new, but I really dreamed it up a while ago. In fact, this salad was the original inspiration for this grilled chicken and corn salad. The recipes both started to run together in my head, what with the whole grilled corn (yum!) thing going on, and it's kinda confusing. Especially because my head is pretty confusing as it is, with multiple cookie recipes being formulated at any given point too. But despite the similarities between the recipes, I decided to just go for it and share this one. Mostly because...um, it's … [Read more...]
Pesto Roasted Carrot Fries
Pesto Roasted Carrot Fries are bright, fresh and summery. Bonus: they have only two ingredients - and they're both healthy! I kinda owe you guys an apology. I've been holding out on you. If you follow me on instagram, you might have seen these awesome carrot fries over Passover. (If you don't follow me on instagram, get on that: @OvertimeCook). I made them as a simple side dish for one of the passover meals, and they were a smashing success. Even my I-hate-cooked-carrots family members were sneaking seconds of them. At first, I was hesitant to share such a simple recipe. Then I was all, "hello? Simple = good!" So then I decided to share these on the blog with you. But life got in the way, … [Read more...]
Creamy Avocado Salad Dressing
Creamy Avocado Salad Dressing is easy to make and healthy - you'll soon be putting it in/on everything! Y'know what distresses me, as a food blogger? Sometimes I have a recipe that gets buried under the awesomeness of another one. Like, when there's a great cupcake recipe, and then it's dreamy frosting recipe gets buries. Shame, especially because said frosting is totally my favorite chocolate frosting. Ever. And then there was the post with mouthwateringly delicious ribs, but nobody noticed the world's best barbecue sauce that goes with it. Or with other food. Slathered over chicken cutlets on the barbecue grill this summer, for example. Oh, and did I mention my favorite salad dressing in … [Read more...]
Red Wine London Broil Salad + A Taste of Pesach Review and Giveaway
Red Wine London Broil Salad makes an elegant appetizer, a delightful side, or a lighter main - making it perfect for Passover or year-round. Adapted from the hottest new cookbook, A Taste of Pesach. The hottest new Passover cookbook is the newly released A Taste of Pesach, and I'm super excited to review it today. Plus, I'm sharing an awesome steak salad from the book, and one lucky person will win a copy! A Taste of Pesach started as a fundraising campaign for a local Yeshivah. A bunch of women gathered their favorite Passover recipes together and mailed them out in the form of a pamphlet. Six years and tens of thousands of fans later, they've compiled the best of their yearly recipe … [Read more...]
Roasted Vegetable Potato Salad
Roasted Vegetable Potato Salad is a totally different take on Potato Salad that's perfect as a Passover Recipe or for all year round! It's that time of year again, huh? I keep trying not to think about Passover's imminent arrival, about all the work that has to be done before it comes, but the world just won't let me forget it! All of my local groceries are busy hiding the bread, crackers, and other such chometz (non-kosher-for-Passover) foods down the hall, behind the partition, down a steep flight of stairs, and through a radioactive screen. Ok, I am exaggerating slightly, but I kinda resent having to go searching for some bread if I want to make a sandwich. You can probably guess that I … [Read more...]
Roasted Red Pepper Dip
Roasted Red Pepper Dip is easy to make, is healthy and the perfect party dip! Raise your hand if you love dips. Shabbat challah and dips go together like...peanut butter and jelly? My personal favorite has always been hummus. I like the dips full of mayo too, like creamy basil dip or creamy eggplant dip. But then I went on my diet, and couldn't quite indulge in endless amounts of hummus or mayo based dips. (Who should, really? So calorie dense!) So I started making my mom's old classic - roasted red pepper dip! Here's the thing though. I grew up enjoying it, not as a healthy dip, but just as one that my siblings and I enjoyed. It wasn't until I was an adult on a diet that I realized how … [Read more...]
Wild Rice Pilaf
Wild rice pilaf is a healthy and flavorful side dish that's really easy to make! Whew. Last day of chanukah. It's been awesome, but I, for one, have had my share of fried foods. And parties. And fattening food. I'm ready for some real food. Some healthy food. Are you? Well if you're looking for something healthier, I've got a delicious new rice dish to share with you. It's kind of Thanksgiving themed, so I meant to share it last week. Then I got super busy with other posts, and totally didn't have a chance. But truthfully, is there ever a bad time for a delicious and healthy side dish? I didn't think so either! So try this...after that last bite of doughut! Wild Rice Pilaf By … [Read more...]
