Homemade Iced Mochaccino

July 15, 2012 by overtimecook 23 Comments

Coffee is a very serious and important part of my life. Let me explain. I like to say I am not a caffeine addict. And honestly, I believe that I am not. Sure, I have three cups of coffee every weekday morning, and I am grumpy like you-don't-want-to-see if I don't get my coffee. (And unproductive, but my manager reads this blog on occasion, so we aren't going to talk about that at all.) Suffice it to say, I start my day off with coffee. Piping hot in the winter, and even the fall (I'll have to remember to post that when (if?) the weather gets cold again. When the weather gets hot, and scalding hot drinks aren't quite as desirable, I bring a huge cup of ice into work with me, and make my … [Read more...]

Tomorrow is the big party and I am freaking out about a million details I need to deal with. Good thing you guys won't have to miss out- I have an awesome guest post for you today! Carla from Chocolate Moosey has become a great blogging buddy of mine, and it's particularly fitting that she guest post here, because I met her initially through a guest post she did on another blog! Plus, Carla and I share a great love of desserts, which is pretty evident from posts of hers like these peanut butter nutella crinkles, these strawberry lemonade cupcakes and these chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake bars. (Plus, you know you gotta love a blog with an entire cheesecake section!) Anyway, check out … [Read more...]

Fresh Garlic Pita Wedges- Guest Post by More Quiche, Please

July 9, 2012 by overtimecook 3 Comments

The wedding was beautiful, my big sister is married, and I am busy preparing her a big shindig. The final party of her week of sheva brachos. For those unfamiliar with this term, it's basically a week of parties following the wedding, generally hosted by family and friends of the bride and groom. Read more here. While I prepare this party, I have another fabulous guest poster. I have been a fan of Tali, over at More Quiche, Please for ages, pretty much as long as I have been blogging. Tali not only keeps kosher, but is a vegetarian, so her recipes are completely different and exciting. She has a wide variety of salads such as this delicious looking marinated eggplant salad, a great bread … [Read more...]

Pastrami Wrapped Caesar Chicken – Guest Post by Kitchen Tested

July 5, 2012 by overtimecook 15 Comments

Remember when my sister got engaged and I made her a super gorgeous engagement party? Well she's getting married tonight! I know, it's crazy! My big sis is getting married. Anyway, while I'm off celebrating her big day, Melinda of Kitchen-Tested agreed to step in and share an incredible looking recipe with all of you. Although everything on her blog is strictly kosher, Melinda features recipes that are so innovative, you could easily think she doesn't have any restrictions. (Think Chicken with Red Velvet Waffles...I know, yum.) She also puts me to shame somewhat because her recipes feature step by step pictures (unlike mine!) which make it so much easier to make things like her fabulous … [Read more...]

Cookie Dough Thumbprint Cookies and a Cookie Dough Lover’s Cookbook Review

July 4, 2012 by overtimecook 18 Comments

I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to have been given the opportunity to review The Cookie Dough Lover's Cookbook, by Lindsay Landis (of Love and Olive Oil Fame). I have been a fan of Lindsay's for ages, and from the minute I picked up this book I was amazed by her creativity and ideas. At First Glance: I loved this cookbook from the moment I picked it up. Before I even read any of the recipes, I noticed that the pictures (all taken by Lindsay herself- speak of talented!) are unbelievably eye-catching and drool-inducing. It's hard to look at this cookbook when you're on a diet (trust me, I had to do it!) because you will want to make every single thing in it. And you won't like not … [Read more...]

Black Bean, Corn and Mango Quinoa Salad

July 1, 2012 by overtimecook 8 Comments

Have you ever known that you had to do something, but you kept putting it off because you assumed it would be unpleasant? Then you finally bite the bullet and the task you were dreading turns out to be no big deal at all, or even, at best, a positive experience? For example, last week at work, a purchase order landed on my desk. I was super busy at the time. I glanced at it briefly and recognized it as coming from a rather problematic account of mine. I decided to get other stuff done meanwhile, and deal with the problem order when I had a few minutes. It sat on my desk over the weekend, and finally I got to it. I completed the order and sent a confirmation of it to my contact there, Ryan. … [Read more...]

Homemade Cherry Pie and a Lattice Crust Tutorial

June 26, 2012 by overtimecook 19 Comments

When I was growing up, there was a store my family frequented that had an amazing bakery section. They baked everything fresh on premises, and it was all super delicious. My parents still shop there often, and they never leave the store without a loaf or two of their amazing homemade bread, or maybe a couple of bagels. There's one treat we often used to buy from this bakery that stood out in my mind above all else. Their cherry pie never looked very elegant. It was wrapped in saran wrap that often stuck to the top a bit, and the "lattice" crust was made from a cutter, not an actual lattice. But nobody could care about that, because it was just so delicious. We didn't get this pie often, and … [Read more...]

Dairy Free Basil Pesto

June 24, 2012 by overtimecook 14 Comments

Delicious Homemade Basil Pesto (Dairy Free and Vegan!)

I love basil. If you've been reading this blog for a while, this shouldn't be news to you. I have posted quite a few recipes that use basil in them. My friend even guest posted a recipe with lots of basil in it. And there are so many more times that I reach for the basil, whether dried, frozen of fresh, and somehow these recipes don't all make it to the blog. Obviously, homemade basil pesto is pretty much the epitome of a basil lover's favorite foods. I know that people get all adventurous with pesto, they use arugula, kale and other greens. And they experiment with walnuts, pistachio nuts and various other nuts. But I am a purist. A basil pesto lover. And while I knowthat  the … [Read more...]

Best Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

June 21, 2012 by overtimecook 25 Comments

I know that many people out there are not very big fans of Nestle Toll House cookie. I am not one of those people. I think that Ruth Wakefield was a genius, and I never found any need to change it up. Sure, I made some fun plays on chocolate chip cookies from time to time, but the basic recipe never failed me. One day I had a radical idea of trying a couple of chocolate chip cookie recipes to see if anyone had improved on the original. Shortly after that, I discovered this recipe, claiming to be the best chewy chocolate chip cookies in the world. Sounds intriguing, doesn't it? I decided I had to make them. Then I got busy making a whole ton of other types of cookies, and my plan of … [Read more...]
