You’ll get new recipes, cooking tips, menu suggestions, kitchen deals  – and more! Click here to signup.*** Scroll to the end of the post for a giveaway! I first heard about the concept of an air fryer a couple of months ago, and was kinda intrigued. But as Hanukkah approached, and frying is weighing (hehe, excuse the pun) on people's minds, loads and loads of my more health conscious readers have been asking what I thought of air fryers. Do they work? Is air-fried food as good as fat-fried food? Well I couldn't answer these questions … [Read more...]

December 3, 2014 by overtimecook 391 Comments

Mongolian Beef is an easy and delicious restaurant style dish that you can make at home thanks to a great new cookbook, Secret Restaurant Recipes. I'm so excited to bring you an in-depth review of this amazing new book: Secret Restaurant Recipes by Leah Schapira and Victoria Dwek - and I'm giving one lucky reader a chance to win their own copy! Scroll down past the review and recipe for the giveaway.  Years ago, when Leah Schapira and I were just getting to know each other, one of our first conversations ever was about getting restaurant recipes. I told her that a local pizza shop makes a great techinah sauce - and she told me to beg for the recipe. And ever since then, I knew she has … [Read more...]

Indulge yourself without too many calories or spending too much money with this Skinny Iced Vanilla Latte! Why, you might be wondering, am I posting a summery-looking, iced drink - NOW - just as the heaters are coming on, the sweatshirts are coming out of the closet, and the days are getting shorter and colder. Well, let me assure you, I have a very good reason. Well, maybe it's not very good, but I do have a reason. I love cold drinks. Summer, spring, winter, fall. It doesn't matter what the temperature is, I love my iced tea, my ice cold soda, and even my coffee is better over ice. Besides, I know that after a ton of holidays and way too much fattening food, many of you are probably … [Read more...]

Roasted Sesame Broccoli

October 6, 2014 by overtimecook 30 Comments

Roasted Sesame Broccoli is a quick, easy, and tasty side dish! The way I've always cooked for holidays like Sukkot is to prepare all of the freezer-friendly dishes well in advance, then last minute, I prepare some veggie sides, which don't freeze well. If you're looking for quick and easy veggie sides to add to your Sukkos menus, I've got just the thing for you: Roasted Sesame Broccoli. When I originally made this dish, I set out to make my Honey Glazed Garlic and Ginger Sugar Snaps. I know, it's quite a stretch to get from there to Roasted Sesame Broccoli, but let me tell you how that happened. My sister asked me to make a vegetable side dish for Rosh Hashanah (I was her guest). I … [Read more...]

Fried Cabbage Wontons

September 30, 2014 by overtimecook 8 Comments

Fried Cabbage Wontons: crunchy on the outside, a savory cabbage filling, and a delicious honey-soy dipping sauce! I first made these a couple of years ago. I don't remember exactly how long it's been, but it was long enough that when I was at my sister's house for Rosh Hashanah, she pulled out a plate of cabbage wontons and mentioned it was my recipe. I was like, what? Then I remembered this delicious appetizer, and knew I had to share it with you guys! Also, my sister said she didn't think I'd mention her if something she served me over the holiday would inspire a post on my blog. Well it did, and here I am. You can all say hi to my sister - who's an excellent hostess but happened to … [Read more...]

White Chocolate Pomegranate Tarts

September 10, 2014 by overtimecook 10 Comments

White Chocolate Pomegranate Tarts are a dainty little dessert with a burst of fresh flavor! So, let's take a little poll here. Who's sick of me talking about Rosh Hashanah recipes? I know. I know. First there was the list of 15 desserts that you can make ahead and freeze for the holidays. Then I shared a new chicken dish that's got both apple and honey in it (I know, it's a perfect chicken recipe for Rosh Hashanah!) followed by an amazing new apple biscotti recipe. Well I aint' done yet, so stay with me folks. Today I'm moving away from the apples for a bit, and instead I'm sharing a pomegranate recipe. I love the combination of white chocolate and pomegranate, and these tarts … [Read more...]

Grilled Corn and Pastrami Salad

August 18, 2014 by overtimecook 21 Comments

Grilled Corn and Pastrami Salad has an amazing smoky flavor, bringing together all of the best things about summer food! I'm feeling deja vu here. I know, this recipe is brand new, but I really dreamed it up a while ago. In fact, this salad was the original inspiration for this grilled chicken and corn salad. The recipes both started to run together in my head, what with the whole grilled corn (yum!) thing going on, and it's kinda confusing. Especially because my head is pretty confusing as it is, with multiple cookie recipes being formulated at any given point too. But despite the similarities between the recipes, I decided to just go for it and share this one. Mostly because...um, … [Read more...]

S’mores Bundt Cake

August 14, 2014 by overtimecook 28 Comments

Graham cracker, chocolate and marshmallow...it's the flavors of summer baked into a S'mores Bundt Cake!  Even if you haven't been paying really close attention, you might have noticed how I am kinda into s'mores. My first s'mores inspired treat were my S'mores Brownie Bites, way back in my first month of blogging. I kept at it many times since then, with cookies, cheesecake, truffles and pie. I'm not alone in my love of s'mores, right? I mean, various combinations of graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows are popping up in all kinds of desserts, all over the place. Is it the nostalgia of enjoying a childhood treat that makes the flavor combination so popular? Or maybe it's … [Read more...]
