Honestly, I'm hesitant to share this recipe now, as a Rosh Hashanah dish, because this absolutely perfect honey vinaigrette is so versatile,. so delicious, you definitely need to keep making it for all of your salads, all year long. For Rosh Hashanah, I'm pairing this dressing with a cabbage salad with apples and some other goodies, but feel free to play around and come up with your favorite combination!   **Note: if you don't use vinegar on Rosh Hashanah, replace it with lemon juice instead.  Did you know that I share cooking … [Read more...]

Apple and Date Pargiyot

Do you receive the Overtime Cook email newsletter? I send out a weekly menu plan, plus more. Click here to sign up. P.S – it’s completely free! This is my favorite type of chicken dish to serve at holiday meal. It's a sauce chicken, which means I make it ahead of time and freeze it (yes! you read that right!), plus the sauce stands up to reheating on the hotplate. It's sweet, but not too sweet, it's soft and tender and just everything I look for in a chicken recipe! Feel free to sprinkle pomegranate seeds over the chicken for an extra symbolic element of this dish, but with apples, dates and carrots, you really can't go wrong here! Did you know that I share cooking demos, menu plans, … [Read more...]

If you're the kind of person who (like my family!) thinks that the super sweet apple kugels frequently served at Shabbos and holiday meals are more of a dessert than a side dish, here's the perfect compromise. Apple Parsnip Soup

This soup may look beautiful, but it’s total comfort food in the bowl. The warm flavors of root vegetables, the sweet flavor of apple, and the richness of the marrow bones combine to make a dish that’s bound to become a family favorite. You can skip the marrow bones to make the soup parve, but it will lack that richness.    Did you know that I share cooking demos, menu plans, giveaways, and lots more exclusive content on Instagram? Within days, hundreds of people had sent me photos of their own s'mores sticks, and hundreds more sent me messages raving about how great they are. And those are just the people who actually reached out! Well, with Rosh Hashanah just a week away, I had honey … [Read more...]

Caramel Apple Granola is the easy and delicious recipe that's perfect for breakfast, snack, dessert, or anytime! Do you receive the Overtime Cook newsletter? It’s full of recipes, kitchen tips and more! Click here to sign up. Here's the thing about homemade granola. I can't think of a single reason not to make it! I mean, let's talk about this. Simple math says that homemade granola is > store-bought granola. It's also cheaper, fresher, and tastier. And the best part? You can customize it to make sure it's exactly to your taste! Now that's what I call a win. This caramel apple granola, if I may brag a little bit, is simply fabulous. It's got those nostalgic flavors of caramel … [Read more...]

Apple and Honey Trifles

September 28, 2016 by overtimecook 7 Comments

Apple and honey trifles are a perfect dessert for Rosh Hashanah, or anytime in the fall!    Have a question about one of my recipes? The best place to get answers is the Overtime Cook Recipes Facebook Group. I probably discussed this with you guys before, but based on today's recipe, I think I need to repeat it. Obviously, as a professional recipe developer, I work ahead of everyone else's schedules. When you're thinking about Rosh Hashanah, I'm finishing up with sukkos. When you're thinking donuts for chanukah, I'm thinking shalach manos for purim. But sometimes, my ideas don't coincide with the seasons, and I have to hold on to my ideas for a while. Like when it's april and I suddenly … [Read more...]
