My favorite kind of shabbos lunch appetizer to serve is a log of something that I can put on a board and serve with a knife - so everyone can cut the size slice of their choosing. IN addition to the classic deli roll, I love to serve this meat boureka - family style - so everyone can cut their own slice. It looks beautiful and tastes amazing - what's not to love?  Some More Shabbos Lunch Recipes You Might Love:  Chopped Chinese Chicken Salad Loaded Steak Salad Beef Bacon Potato Salad Honey Bourbon Steak Skewers World’s Best … [Read more...]

Do you receive the Overtime Cook email newsletter? I send out a weekly menu plan, plus more. Click here to sign up. P.S – it’s completely free! If you've been grocery shopping lately, I'm sure you've noticed how high meat prices have gotten lately. So when I'm cooking for shabbos, I try to shop the meat sales. Another thing I do is to is look for ways to elevate ground beef into a Shabbos-worthy dish. And this French Onion Meatballs and Gnocchi dish is exactly that! It may seem like a lot of work to caramelize the onions deeply, but it's really just an hour of mostly hands-off time. And the reward is incredibly tasty onions that flavor this dish in the best way possible!  Did you … [Read more...]

Maple Pulled Chicken with Cornbread Waffles

Do you receive the Overtime Cook email newsletter? I send out a weekly menu plan, plus more. Click here to sign up. P.S – it’s completely free! Waffles are one of my top 3 foods (along with dumplings and popcorn) and if you've only been enjoying waffles in a sweet format, you're missing on some of the best food you could be eating. Chicken and waffles is a famous southern dish, but my version swaps the fried chicken for maple pulled chicken (lighter and easier to prepare), swaps the big sweet waffles for mini cornbread waffles (prettier presentation!) and tops it with just the right toppings for tanginess and crunch!    If you're looking for a dish that will impress … [Read more...]

Do you receive the Overtime Cook email newsletter? I send out a weekly menu plan, plus more. Click here to sign up. P.S – it’s completely free! Honestly, I'm hesitant to share this recipe now, as a Rosh Hashanah dish, because this absolutely perfect honey vinaigrette is so versatile,. so delicious, you definitely need to keep making it for all of your salads, all year long. For Rosh Hashanah, I'm pairing this dressing with a cabbage salad with apples and some other goodies, but feel free to play around and come up with your favorite combination!   **Note: if you don't use vinegar on Rosh Hashanah, replace it with lemon juice instead.  Did you know that I share cooking … [Read more...]

Apple and Date Pargiyot

Do you receive the Overtime Cook email newsletter? I send out a weekly menu plan, plus more. Click here to sign up. P.S – it’s completely free! This is my favorite type of chicken dish to serve at holiday meal. It's a sauce chicken, which means I make it ahead of time and freeze it (yes! you read that right!), plus the sauce stands up to reheating on the hotplate. It's sweet, but not too sweet, it's soft and tender and just everything I look for in a chicken recipe! Feel free to sprinkle pomegranate seeds over the chicken for an extra symbolic element of this dish, but with apples, dates and carrots, you really can't go wrong here! Did you know that I share cooking demos, menu plans, … [Read more...]
